Tru-Marine gathers friends and partners over no ordinary coffee at Asia Pacific Maritime 2014, the region’s premier maritime event that hosts quality Asia Pacific buyers and international suppliers.
Brewing specialty coffee to professional standards at the Tru-Marine stand over the three-day networking event is Bettr Barista, which runs the Bettr Barista Coffee Academy. The Academy is Singapore’s leading provider of internationally certified coffee education to coffee professionals, and is the only Licensed International Education Partner with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) as well as an Authorised Trainer with the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE).
Founded in 2011 as a social enterprise, Bettr Barista is grounded on arming marginalised women and at-risk youth with the skills and tools to make their lives better.
Through a 12-week, three-prong holistic programme which combines world-class barista training with emotional and physical skills training, Bettr Barista works to help its students gain permanent employment within the Bettr Group, its partner organisations or even provide them with an opportunity to run their own start-up.
Bettr Barista Coffee Academy recently won the 2013 President’s Challenge Award for Social Enterprise Startup of the Year.
“Bettr Barista is a business with a social heart. Everything we do centres on creating as much social impact as possible – for our students, coffee farmers, clients and partners – while always keeping an eye on being profitable and self-sustaining,” said Pamela Chng, Founder.
Tru-Marine is committed to contributing to the communities in which we serve. Every year Tru-Marine works with various charity and community partners to support worthwhile initiatives in education and is happy to be extending hospitality at APM 2014 that benefits the women and youth under the mentorship of Bettr Barista.
